Session Number: PC-7. Transformative Mediation for Marital Conflict and Family Preservation
Marital mediation is a preventative process by which married couples can maintain healthy marriages over time and preserve family relationships which may be otherwise challenged or weakened by more adversarial divorce processes. Regardless of whether all married couples should stay married, marital mediation honors the parties’ initial bond of marriage and creates an atmosphere that fosters empowerment and informed decision-making. Marital mediation’s relationship to family preservation may be a subtle one, but the potential outcomes from an effective and responsible mediation processcan have profound effects on the family system.
